If your kids are looking for something special to make for Fathers Day, then you can’t go past this Easy Fathers Day Award craft idea for kids. It’s surprisingly simple to make and the custom message can be anything your kids want to tell Dad on his special day.
And there aren’t any special folding techniques required but I suggest you watch the video at the end of this post, to see how the concertina is formed.
It’s actually quite clever when you know how.
And for an extra twist, you could glue a magnet on the back and easily turn this Fathers Day Award into a fridge magnet.
Anyway, let’s get started.
How to Make a Fathers Day Award
First, let’s get everything ready so you can leave the little ones to get busy and avoid all those interruptions.
Skill Level – Easy
Time Required – 20 minutes
What you will need
Step 1
First, cut 2 strips of colored construction card 11 3/4in x 1 1/2in to use for the body of the award. Then cut 2 smaller strips for the award ribbon ( 5in x 3/4in). Cut a small ‘V’ at the bottom of the smaller strips to create the ribbon for your award.
Step 2
Next, you concertina fold the 2 large strips of construction card approx 1/2in for each fold.
Step 3
When you have completed folding the construction card glue the ends together. First forming a long strip then join the remaining ends together to form a circle.
Step 4
Then punch or cut out a circle and glue to the ribbon part of your award. This forms a nice back to the award and can also be used to glue a safety pin or magnet depending on the use of the award. Hold the folded construction card to form a circle. Add some glue and add the ribbon to the back to hold it into place.
Step 5
Then punch or cut a larger circle for the front of your award which has your special message. It helps to write the message on the circle before gluing on the front of the card. Once you have written your message glue to the front of the award and you have finished.
