How to Make an Egg Carton Bee

This super cute Egg Carton Bee is definitely a fun kids craft idea. It’s easy to make and only requires a few things from around the house.

So let’s get started.

How to Make an Egg Carton Bee

First, let’s get everything ready so you can leave the little ones to get busy and avoid all those interruptions.

Skill Level – Easy

Time Required – 15 minutes

What you will need

• Egg carton
• Yellow paint
• White pipe cleaner / Chenille stick
• Googly eyes
• Black marker
• Scissors
• Glue

Step 1

Cut out a cup from the egg carton  and trim so it sits flat on the table. This will create the body of one egg carton bee.

Step 2

Now it’s time to get messy with the paints.  Paint the egg carton cup yellow. Depending on your paints this may require a couple of coats of paint as it soaks into the egg carton.

Step 3

Once the paint has dried, use a black marker or black paint, draw on a semi circle on the first flat surface and color in. This will be your first stripe.

The next stripe goes in the middle of the egg carton cup drawing and coloring in on both flat sides of the cup and up the top.

The last stripe goes after the second stripe at the back, by drawing on a semi circle and then color in.

Step 4

Using the scissors punch a hole on either side of the top of the cup where the black stripe is. This is where the wings for the egg carton bee will go.

From the inside of the egg carton cup feed the pipe cleaner into the first hole until you reach your desired size for your bee wing. Fold the pipe cleaner around to shape your wing and place the end of the pipe cleaner in the same hole. This creates your first wing.

Now for the other wing. Use the other end for the remaining wing and follow the instructions above. Once you have shaped your wing leave an extra 1cm and cut off any excess pipe cleaner and place the pipe cleaner back in the same hole.

Step 5

All you have to do now is to glue on the googly eyes and you are done.

Other Ideas

• Why not use the leftover egg carton to make other insects like a caterpillar, beetle or ant.
• You could change the colour of the egg carton shell to make a orange or red bee.
