How to Make a Clothespin Caterpillar

Need a quick kids craft idea to keep the kids busy for a little while? This easy to make Clothespin Caterpillar is an ideal kids craft which only uses a few things from your craft box and is fun to make. You guessed it, you’ll need a clothespin, pom pom’s, pipe cleaners, googly eyes and glue. Once you have shown your kids how to make them you can leave them to create as many as they like while you take a well-earned break.

So let’s get started.

How to Make a Clothespin Caterpillar

First, let’s get everything ready so you can leave the little ones to get busy and avoid all those interruptions.

Skill Level – Easy

Time Required – 15 minutes

What you will need

• Clothespins
• Pom pom’s
• Pipe cleaner / Chenille sticks
• Googly eyes
• Glue
• Scissors

Step 1

The fun part starts with deciding what color pom pom’s to use for the clothespin caterpillar body. The size of your clothespin determines how many pom pom’s your child will need, just line them up next to the clothespin  in the order of head to tail.

Step 2

Glue 2 googly eyes to the front of the head pom pom.  If you want your clothespin caterpillar to have an antenna cut a piece of pipe cleaner to the length required and fold in half and curl the tips a little.  Glue the antenna to the back of the head and let it dry.

Step 3

Once the head has dried squirt a strip of glue down the length of the clothespin. Place the head on the bottom of the clothespin and work along pressing the rest of the pom pom’s for the body into the glue and let dry.

Other Ideas

• When the kids have finished playing with the clothespin caterpillar why not turn it into a handy note holder for the fridge.  Just glue a magnet on the back and there you have it, a colorful note holder.
