How to Make a Paper Chain Snakes

Today we’ll learn How to Make Paper Chain Snakes or Paper Snakes as they are otherwise known. These are super easy to make and can be made as long as your child’s imagination allow.  And once you’ve shown your kids how to make the first chain link, you can leave them to create the rest.

Of course, the fun part is decorating the head and the photo shows just one idea you can use.

So let’s get started.

How to Make Paper Chain Snakes

First, let’s get everything ready so you can leave the little ones to get busy and avoid all those interruptions.

Skill Level – EASY

Time Required – 15 minutes

What you will need

• Colored card
• Sticky tape or stapler
• Googly eyes
• Scissors

Step 1

Select the colors you want to use for your paper chain snakes. Cut 1 piece of card 6 cm x 15 cm.  This is used for the head. Overlap the 15 cm lengthwise and either tape or staple together.

Step 2

Decorate the head.  Cut a small piece of card for the tongue and stick on the front of the head (opposite taped join) then glue on a couple of googly eyes.

Step 3

Now that the head has been made it’s time for the fun part… making the body as long as your imagination will allow.

To do this, make the first link 3cm x 20cm as this will need to be longer to join to the head to the body. Then cut as many 3cm x 15cm strips of colored card needed for the rest of your body .  Link the first strip through the head and staple or tape, link the next strip and staple or tape, repeat until your child is happy with the length.

Now you’ve shown the little ones what to do, go and have some time to yourself. You’ve earned it.

Other Ideas

• Try using a multi-colored card for the body.
• Or why not make it into a paper caterpillar by adding antennae to the head and removing the tongue and make it in your child’s favorite colors.
