Your kids with love this easy to make Paper Plate Sunflower and the best part is when they are finished admiring it you can pop it in the ground and watch it grow.

So let’s get started.

How to Make a Paper Plate Sunflower

First, let’s get everything ready so you can spend some quality time with your child and avoid all those interruptions.

What you will need

  • Paper Plate
  • Yellow paint
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Step 1

Paint the paper plate yellow or let your child use their imagination and use a different color.

Step 2

Once the paint has dried it’s time to cut the petals.  Work around the paper plate cutting into the centre every 4cm. This is the start of your petals.

To shape the petals, start at the edge of the plate and find the middle. Diagonally cut towards the side of each flower petal about half way down. This forms a point (see photo)

Step 3

Now for the fun part, spread glue in a circle in the centre of the paper plate and have  your child sprinkle sunflower seeds over the glue and let dry.

There you have it, your very own Paper Plate Sunflower.

Other Ideas

  • How about making your Paper Plate Sunflower into a wall decoration by cutting out a stem and leaves and join them to the back of the sunflower.
  • If you don’t have sunflower seeds you could use tea leaves, other bird seed or even scrunched up tissue paper.
  • Don’t forget you can plant your sunflower and watch the seeds shoot up from the ground. You will need to thin them out as you will probably get a lot of seedlings.
