Easy Paper Heart Flower Craft for Kids

This Paper Heart Flower Craft idea is the perfect Mothers Day gift, or for any other occasion when you want to say ‘I Love You’. It’s simple to make and is an easy kids paper craft idea.

And although it looks like you are just giving someone a paper flower, the petals open up to reveal your special message. You could even make a few of these and give them out as party favors thanking your guests for celebrating your child’s birthday with them.

Now there is a little folding and cutting, so this paper craft idea is suitable for ages 5+.

Anyway, So let’s get started.

Paper Heart Flower CraftFirst, let’s get everything ready so you can leave the little ones to get busy and avoid all those interruptions.

Skill Level – Med

Time Required – 20 minutes

What you will need

  • Colored origami paper (6inx 6in)
  • Straws
  • Paper clips
  • Glue
  • Sticky tape
  • Scissors

Step 1

First, fold the paper in half then open the paper and repeat this step on the other side forming 4 squares (image 1). The fold the paper diagonally forming a triangle then open the paper and repeat this step forming 4 triangles (image 2).

Next, fold the origami paper back up so you have a triangle. Holding the folder side of the triangle make a curved cut from the small triangle point to the fold (image 1). When you open up the first fold you will have a paper heart (image 2).

When the heart is opened up it will form a flower.  Next, we need to make a smaller flower for the centre of the flower.  Follow step 1 & 2 to fold up your origami paper but this time make your cut in Step 2 slightly below the small triangle.  This will make the heart smaller than the first one.  Glue together and write your message.

Next, tape a straw to the back of the folded paper heart for your stem.

Then cut out a couple of leaves and glue to the straw.

Step 6

To hold the paper heart flower together cut and decorate a butterfly or bee and attached to a paper clip. This will hold everything in place until the big reveal.
